Police
I am PC Dave Cook I am the Neighbourhood Beat Manager for the rural areas of Falmouth
and Penryn. My beat covers Constantine, Mawnan Smith, Budock Water, Mabe, Ponsanooth,
Stithians and all the hamlets in between. Also on the beat is Pcso Andy Huddlestone who looks
after Stithians Mabe and Ponsanooth, and Pcso Ben Gardiner who looks after Mawnan Smith
Constantine and Budock Water. The area is a very safe place to live with one of the lowest
crime rates in the country. I am in regular contact with many council departments and local
authority housing providers with whom we work in partnership with to provide the best service
we can.
The areas that we cover are vast and we conduct both mobile and foot patrols on a regular
basis in all the villages. Andy can be seen regularly cycling around the patch and at the schools
where he does a lot of work with the children, Ben can usually be found on foot in one of his
villages. There are primary schools in all of our six villages and we like to get involved with their
activities as much as possible.
Andy and Ben have forged excellent links with all of our village schools and have introduced
Cyclewise and Junior road safety Officers to them all. They also does work with Brownie
and Cub groups, and the recently started Police Cadets.
To support the sailing communities we have a highly successful Boat Watch scheme. The
Helford river estuary which runs through a large part of the area affords great opportunity for
maritime activities. There is the Port Navas Sailing club, Helford Passage with its numerous
moorings, ferry and slipway, and many other creeks and launching areas. Along with this are the
many private moorings ,boat houses and slipways along the river frontage.
Boat Watch was launched in July 2009 by the Rural Neighbourhood Policing Team at Falmouth
Police Station, and Pcso Ben Gardiner has now taken up the mantle helping with the scheme in
our area.
